Study Task 1 - Who Am I? Why Am I Here?

Julia Trybala
Five reasons I chose Illustration:
  • I love to draw and make things.
  • I want to learn how to make the things I draw have more purpose and meaning to them, rather than being just something I do for fun.
  • It widens and changes the way that you look at the world.
  • Illustration is such a wide subject and has so many possible paths to follow.
  • I want to make a career out of something that I'm passionate about.

Five reasons I chose this programme:
  • LCA is a specialist institution which means I will always be surrounded by other creatives, whether they be studying on the same course or something else.
  • The facilities are great, I'm looking forward to being able to use the print room and also being able to use new equipment/processes that I haven't worked with before.
  • It's a full time course, which aims to push you to your full potential whilst making sure you have fun and enjoy your course along the way!
  • The tutors are excited and passionate about what they do.
  • Having previously studied an FE course at LCA, I know the college has a commitment to their students to provide good quality courses that prepare them well for their next steps in life.

Five skills that I think are my strengths:
  • I'm enthusiastic and passionate about Illustration
  • I work well with line.
  • Commitment to the course and to my work.
  • I set high goals for myself and push myself to make sure that what I produce is the best that I can do, although sometimes I think that this can hold me back a bit.
  • I'm keen to learn new things and start experimenting with different materials and ways of producing work.

Five thing that I want to improve:
  • My time management MUST improve. I always end up spending too long on certain things or forgetting to do things which leads to me being behind in one way or another.
  • Become less focused on having a 'finished/perfect' outcome. I need to learn to embrace my mistakes and learn from them.
  • My knowledge on the subject. I'd like to be able to understand more about Illustration and it's purpose and also gain a wider knowledge of other Illustrators.
  • Gain a better understanding of using computer based software such as Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Become more confident as an Illustrator and as an individual.
